Neolithic

This is yet another good example of the use of archaeology and prehistory in popular culture. This flyer from a local band is rich in prehistoric connotations. Starting from the name of the band, which can be seen as a reference to a primitive and savage population. The hyeena reminds me of Binfords taphonomic research and his Middle Range Theory. The hyeena, smoking a joint, carries ethnobotanical, shamanistic, animalistic and totemistic connotations. The most apparent feature is the text "Neolithic". It makes me think of the neolithic period. Lithic technology in particular, but that may be because of my personal history with ancient technology. In general it takes the reader to the Stone Age, the late Stone Age in particular, which sees the emergence of a new kind of technology, metallurgy. It is the end of a long era of primitive life, the Stone Age, and the beginning of a new era, the Bronze Age. It is the era of change.

I haven't yet given it a listen, but I wonder if the music delivers what it suggests.
